They receive no compensation for their dedicated work on behalf of the children of Porterville. ROGERS SCORED 4 RUNS AND HAD 3 STOLEN BASES.
BY FAR, THE BEST HOSTED LITTLE LEAGUE TOURNAMENT WE'VE BEEN A PART OF! THE TWO TEAMS THAT PORTERVILLE LOST TO ARE NOW PLAYING IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME! Yet my son, Shay, cannot learn things as other children do. He cannot understand things as other children do. Where is the natural order of things in my son? Shay's father approached one of the boys on the field and asked if Shay could play. I guess he can be on our team and we'll try to put him in to bat in the ninth inning.
Now, with two outs and the bases loaded, the potential winning run was on base and Shay was scheduled to be next at bat. Everyone knew that a hit was all but impossible 'cause Shay didn't even know how to hold the bat properly, much less connect with the ball. The pitcher again took a few steps forward to toss the ball softly towards Shay. Shay would have been out and that would have been the end of the game. He scampered down the baseline, wide- eyed and startled. THAT MEANS WE ARE GOING TO THE STATE TOURNAMENT FOR THE THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR! WHEN I FIRST CAME INTO THE LEAGUE (5 YEARS AGO) I JUST WANTED TO GIVE MY CHILD THE LITTLE LEAGUE EXPERIENCE (I HAD ZERO AMBITIONS OF BEING THE PRESIDENT!).
PLAYERS AND DADS (THAT WANTED TO COACH) WOULD COME INTO THE LEAGUE AND BEGIN DRAFTING PLAYERS THAT THEY WOULD KEEP FOR 2 TO 3 YEARS ON THEIR SAME TEAM. PERFECTLY LEAGAL, AND LITTLE LEAGUE HAS APPROVED THIS DRAFTING METHOD. THE PROBLEM THAT I SAW WAS THAT THE COMPETITION COULD BE IMPROVED. AND AGAIN, MANY OF THOSE PLAYERS JUST WON PORTERVILLE HIGH SCHOOL ITS FIRST EVER VALLEY CHAMPIONSHIP UNDER THE DIRECTION OF MIKE HILL (INSTRUMENTAL IN HELPING US CHANGE THE DIRECTION OF OUR LEAGUE).
